After his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Riyadh, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, or GCC, Abdul-latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani spoke exclusively to CCTV, he expressed his positive expectations for future cooperation.
"I'm happy to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Saudi Arabia. And I'm grateful for this chance. We've discussed all the issues related to the cooperation between China and GCC nations," Al-Zayani said.
Established in 1981, the GCC is a regional intergovernmental political and economic body. It's made up of  Gulf states Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
After taking office as head of the council in 2011, Al-Zayani has been pushing for tighter economic, political and military coordination among member states, transforming the GCC into a "Gulf Union".
He now hopes that the GCC can deepen cooperation with China.
