Seeking Postdoctoral Fellows for the Global Engagement Academy
I. Duties
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to
work independently but should also cooperate with fellow researchers at the
Global Engagement Academy/College of Culture & Communication, Shandong
University (Weihai) with an expectant result of 2-3 peer-reviewed top scholarly
publications within the areas of emphasis of the two academic units by the end
of the two-year term. During the postdoc period, he/she should participate in,
and contribute to, the research environment through active participation in
research seminars and other research-related activities, contribute with their
own original research, as well as contribute to the general development of the
research programs within the two academic units or on the Weihai campus of
Shandong University. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to take part in
organizing workshops or lecture series, take charge of seminars, and contribute
to the development of research grant applications. The postdoctoral fellow is
also expected to take part in mentoring at the master’s and Ph. D. levels.
These tasks require the postdoctoral fellow to have a high level of presence at
the workplace Mentoring, supervision and other administrative duties comprise a
maximum of 20% of the position.
II、 Qualifications
We are looking for competitive
candidates of any national and racial/ethnic background in the areas of
intercultural/international/global communication, journalism and communication,
and/or public diplomacy in the digital age from related disciplines such as
communication, political science, globalization/global studies, and so on
with preferably a research agenda related to China’s outbound initiatives
such as the Belt & Road Initiative or new initiatives on humanities social
sciences using a mixed methodology or a quantitative method such as big
data analytics. Candidates with a Ph. D. in the areas listed above,obtained
within the past three years from a globally ranked top university, have a
burgeoning programmatic research and publication record and a very interesting
research proposal portending a strong research potential preferably with
English-Chinese bilingual/bicultural competence, and within 35 years of
age, are highly encouraged to apply.
The research proposal should be no more
than 1500 words and consist of the following components: aim and research
question; theory and method; relation to the research front including the most
important field work in the field of research; schedule and expected results;
and the applicant’s qualifications and competence to conduct the project.

benefits packages available for candidates’ preference depending upon

IV. Starting
Date:
Postdoc fellows
employed are expected to start the postdoc term preferably by September 1,
2020. It ends on August 30, 2022.

(1) Introduction
to Shandong University
Shandong University
is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of education with
a long history, complete set of disciplines, strong academic strength and
distinctive school running characteristics, which has an important influence at
home and abroad. It is a world-class university construction University(Class A). In recent years,
Shandong University has achieved a leap forward development, the comprehensive
level and quality of the University have been significantly improved, and the
international influence has been significantly enhanced. At present, nearly 170
universities in more than 30 countries and regions have signed inter university
cooperation agreements. The school has a large scale, forming a school running
pattern of one school and three places (Jinan, Weihai, Qingdao).
The Weihai Campus of
Shandong University where the postdoc fellows will be working is a beautiful
campus of high academic dynamism and rigor located in the City of Weihai, a
medium-sized port city of beauty and vibrancy. While the Weihai campus lodges
itself on a hill, the city is known as a resort town full of hot springs,
surrounded by beaches and affordable amenities. With three sides of it facing
the Yellow Sea, part of the Pacific Ocean, the City of Weihai is nicked
named “Hawaii of the East”.
(2) Introduction
to the Global Engagement Academy
The Global Engagement
Academy (Shandong University at Weihai) is a newly established new type of open
research platform seeking integrated research solutions in generating new
knowledge and policy advising about globalization, global governance,
and global order as well as in
enhancing stakeholders’ competence in global engagement, global
corporate governance, and global citizenship.Well-published professors of
global standing affiliated to the Global Engagement Academy such as
Prof. Jia will serve as faculty hosts of the post-doctoral fellows. The
Global Engagement Academy currently hosts prestigious scholarly
initiatives such as the English scholarly book series "Chinese
Perspectives on journalism and communication" published by Taylor & Francis/Routledge
as well asthe scholarly book series “The Belt & Road Initiative:
Interdisciplinary Perspectives” published by Peter Lang. In order to
further strengthen the scientific research in the areas close to such
initiatives and projects, the Global Engagement Academy is now
recruiting 1-2 postdoctoral fellows among top candidates around the world.
(3) Types
of Postdoc Fellowship and Benefit Packages
A. Specially
Funded Postdoctoral Fellowships
Ph. D. holders with
an outstanding record of academic achievements and great development potential
from top universities at home and abroad who are no more than 35 years old and
have graduated within the last three years are eligible to apply for the
postdoc fellowship positions under the national high-level projects such as
China’s National Postdoctoral Innovation Talent Support Plan, the Postdoctoral
International Exchange Plan Introduction Project, the International Exchange
Plan Dispatch Project and so on.
Salary and Benefits:
the annual stipend shall not be less than 300000 yuan / person(before tax, equivalent to USD 43,000), and the subsidy term is generally 2 years. The social security
benefits and housing stipend shall be paid according to the same standard of
the teachers in service during the period of postdoctoral stay, and the same
research resources shall be fully accessed by the postdoc fellows. The
university provides postdoctoral fellows an apartment for eligible postdoctoral
fellows to rent.
Postdoc Performance
Review: the postdoc station term for special funded postdoc fellows is
generally two years. If they fail to leave the station on time due to work
demand by the end of two years, it can be extended for one year upon an
application and a favorable review. At the end of the postdoc research term,
postdoc fellows are free to apply for full-time teaching positions either in or
outside Shandong University, or they can participate in the selection of talent
projects such as the Qilu Young Scholars of Shandong University.
B. Key
funded postdoctoral program
Candidates: Ph. D.
holders with an excellent academic record who have graduated from very
top-ranked universities at home and abroad within the past three years, with
great development potential and strong academic ability are encouraged to
apply. The age limit is generally no more than 35 years old.
Salary and benefits:
the annual salary shall not be less than 200000 yuan / person (before tax), and the subsidy period is generally 2 years. The campus
provides 10000 yuan / year of scientific research funds, with a funding period
of two years. The social security benefits and housing subsidy shall be paid
according to the same standard for the teachers in service during the period of
the postdoctoral stay, and the research resources of Shandong University shall
be fully accessed by the postdoc fellows.
Postdoc Performance
Review: Generally, the term of post doctorial fellows of the key funded type is
two years. If they fail to leave the station on time due to work demand, one
year’s extension can be granted after the application is reviewed favorably.
C. Program

holders who have graduated from high-level universities at home and abroad
within the last three years who are more than 35 years old are eligible to
apply.
Salary and benefits:
annual salary shall not be less than 120000 yuan / person (before tax).
Postdoc Performance
Review: the postdoctoral term of the project is generally 2 years. If the
postdoc fellow fails to leave the station on time due to work demand, an
application for extension can be made, and the extension can be 1 year after a
favorable review. Those who have met the post-doc research requirements are
encouraged to apply for open positions available at Shandong University or
elsewhere.

(3)参与申请研究院相关研究基金;
(4)参与指导研究院或文化传播学院相关的硕士生、博士生研究指导工作;
(5)参与协助研究院两套英文学术丛书系列的编辑工作。
博士后期间工作任务80%为研究时间,最多20%的时间花在行政事务上。
四、招收类型及待遇
1、特别资助类博士后
(1)招收对象:国家博士后创新人才支持计划、博士后国际交流计划引进项目、国际交流计划派出项目的统招博士后,海内外顶尖高校新近毕业、学术成果突出、有较大发展潜力的优秀博士。年龄一般不超过35周岁。
(2)薪酬待遇:年薪不低于30万元/人(税前),资助期限一般为2年。校区现有附属幼儿园,正在筹建附属中小学,能够为关系转入我校的博士后提供优质的基础教育服务。博士后在站期间按在职教师同等标准缴纳社会保险和住房公积金,与在职教师享有同等的图书及科研资源。
(3)管理考核:特别资助类博士后在站时间一般为两年,确因工作需要2年未能按时出站,经个人申请、审核后可延期一年。期满达到培养要求可转聘相关学科教师岗位,也可参与齐鲁青年学者等人才项目的选拔。
2、重点资助类博士后
(1)招收对象:国内外知名高校近3年毕业、发展潜力较大、学术能力较强的优秀博士。年龄一般不超过35周岁。
(2)薪酬待遇:年薪不低于20万元/人(税前),资助期限一般为2年。校区提供1万元/年科研经费,资助期限为两年。博士后在站期间按在职教师同等标准缴纳社会保险和住房公积金,与在职教师享有同等的图书及科研资源。
(3)管理考核:重点资助类博士后在站时间一般为两年,确因工作需要2年未能按时出站,经个人申请、审核后可延期一年。
3、项目资助类博士后
(1)招收对象:国内外高水平大学近3年毕业的博士。年龄不超过35周岁。
(2)薪酬待遇:年薪不低于 12 万元/人(税前)。
(3)管理考核:项目博士后在站时间一般为 2 年,确因工作需要 2 年未能按时出站,可提出延期申请,经审核可延期 1 年。期满考核达到要求者可参加学校教师及其他相关岗位招聘。
